Jury’s
motivation
Through a dialectical relationship between ceramics and a contemporary language (video), the artist reflects on the Mediterranean; highlighting a disenchanted and ironic look at the iconography of classical sculpture, with affinities linked to a “mythological” and conceptual culture. Moreover, by re-enacting the relationship with multimedia, the artist discusses on the future of ceramic’s language, being also a profound connoisseur of the ceramic tradition.
The Island
Nero/Alessandro Neretti
This video was developed during the artist-in-residence program promoted by “Fondazzjoni Kreattività” & “Valletta 2018 – European Capital of Culture”, held in May 2017.
Introspection and loneliness led me to elaborate a relation between sea, island, and culture inside the Mediterranean basin. A floating head that reminds a Greek god wavering on the endless horizon. A white evidence, like a boat full of consciousness, a message from the past, drifting alone like an iconic revelation of our times and our dashed hopes.
